West Essex Mind is working in your community to support people on their journey towards recovery from mental ill health.

What's on

Could you be a befriender?

Do you have some free time that you could share with someone feeling isolated or lonely? Do you have interests or hobbies that you could inspire someone else to enjoy alongside you?
Our volunteer Befrienders have gone cycling and swimming, helped with gardens, been to cinemas, tried yoga and tai chi, drunk coffee and chatted, talked through problems, laughed out loud and made a real difference to other peoples wellbeing.

Our next Befriender training is on the 6th and 13th October 10-1pm in Harlow.

Could you be a Peer Support Volunteer?

If you have experience of mental ill health, and could support others on their journey of recovery you could train to become a Peer Support Volunteer, and help develop our social activities to include more people in more places across West Essex. Contact Martin on 07854 793329, or email peersupport@westessexmind.org.uk for more information. The role description can be downloaded from here and volunteer application form from here.

Community Allotment Project

The allotment is really flourishing - have a look on our Facebook page for the latest photos.

Allotmenters meet on Mondays at 1pm at Bush Fair and walk over to Stile Croft. If anyone can bring a rake/fork or spade that would be very helpful and much appreciated.

Contact Martin Baker on 07854 793329 for more details.

"I had a black dog, his name was depression"...

The World Health Organisation have made an animated video about depression. It's an insightful, poignant but heart-warming story about a man's relationship with his 'black dog'. You can watch it by clicking here.
