Volunteering with West Essex Mind

Without the help of our volunteers, West Essex Mind would not be able to provide the high quality and wide-ranging services that we do. We thank all of our volunteers for their valuable contribution and are keen to provide them with training to enhance their knowledge, skills and confidence. We are committed to making the volunteering experience rewarding, and although at times it may be challenging, it is ultimately extremely worthwhile.


We welcome people from all walks of life, no qualifications are necessary as long as you are open minded, non-judgemental and enjoy spending time with others. There is no minimum amount of time you have to give as long as you can be committed and reliable.

What you can expect from West Essex Mind

If you become a volunteer with West Essex Mind you can expect:

• To be treated with respect at all times  
• To be safe at all times  
• To know who to contact for support or if you are having problem  
• To receive appropriate training where required  
• To receive regular feedback  
• Never to be out of pocket and to be reimbursed for any expenses you incur

What West Essex Mind will expect of you as a volunteer:

• To be reliable and committed to your role  
• Agree to West Essex Minds confidentiality and volunteering policies  
• To be subject to a CRB check  
• To supply two references  
• To ask for help and support if and when needed  
• To be non-judgemental and non-discriminatory at all times  

Volunteering Roles

We have a variety of interesting and rewarding services which you can get involved with. Everybody in unique and has something individual to offer. We will endeavour to match your particular skills and interests to a role that will suit you best.

We are always looking for volunteers for the following:

• Becoming a trustee
• Befriending someone who is experiencing ill health    
• Supporting people by getting involved in a range of social activities    
• Reading Group Facilitator  
• Administration    

From time to time we also sometimes require:

• Help updating our website  
• Organising Events  
• Walk Leaders  
• Gardening Group Facilitator  
• Researchers for new projects  
• Treasurers  
• Bid Writers  
• Legal Advisors  
• Help updating our website
